Maize is Our Life The MACC in collaboration with MAMAZ Collective (Mujeres Artistas y el Maiz) presents the opening reception for El Maiz es Nuestra Vida / Maize is Our Life, a traveling contemporary art exhibition based on the theme of Mexico’s native maize seeds. This exhibition uses maize as a symbol to guide the public through its history. The artists in this exhibit explore the concepts of cultural memory, biodiversity, genetic modifi cation, and how the history of maize has developed in the last twenty years as an important resource in the global economy. This exhibit is curated by Claudia Zapata, who received her BA and MA in art history from the University of Texas at Austin. She is currently curating Mexic-Arte Museum’s 15th annual Young Latino Artists exhibition this summer.
