Shakespeare’s Birthday with Austin Shakespeare
Presented by Austin Shakespeare
April 24, 2010
As part of its 25th anniversary season, Austin Shakespeare invites one and all to join in the most fun party of the year, Shakespeare’s Birthday Party, noon – 4 pm on Saturday, April 24th, to frolic in Richard Garriott’s miniature Castleton Village off City Park Road on the beautiful shores of Lake Austin.
“For one afternoon, all the world’s a birthday party,” says Master of Revels, Robert Faires, “where merrymakers of all ages can celebrate Shakespeare’s life and the incomparable stories, characters and poetry he gave the world. These festivities will give everyone a chance to play in the Bard of Avon’s playground.”
Shakespeare’s Birthday features:
*Treasure Hunt for the kids, where Shakespeare’s characters provide the clues at a full-size pirate ship, fort and lighthouse;
*Sonnet-a-thon, where you can read a sonnet or listen as all 154 are performed aloud;
*Shakes Karaoke, where you can act out The Bard’s immortal scenes in costume, reading lines off cue cards;
In collaboration with The Baron's Men, at Shakespeare’s Birthday Party you are also invited to
*tour The Curtain Theater, Austin's own replica of an Elizabethan theater;
*listen to beautiful Elizabethan music on period instruments by The Baron's Men Musicians
*see demonstrations of Elizabethan dancing, candle-making, leather-working, tailoring and visit an Elizabethan artisan market.
Visitors are encouraged to dress in their own birthday attire! Refreshments will culminate with a gigantic birthday cake for The Bard with some of Austin’s luminaries at 3 pm.
