      Ballet East Dance Company seems to be a great training ground for new dancers. Several of the most eye catching dancers in Soaring are going on to further training and adventures beyond Austin.... Expand

      Ballet East Dance Company seems to be a great training ground for new dancers. Several of the most eye catching dancers in Soaring are going on to further training and adventures beyond Austin. Watching the performance of Soaring, I was reminded of school recitals in the best way - the dancers were energetic and eager to please and the audience was full of warmth and approval. There were some stand out performances, especially Gina Patterson’s graceful choreography for the multi-layered piece “Time” and the physical and highly theatrical piece “The Gentleman’s Sport” - about cock fighting. In each of the nine pieces, there are moments of beauty. There were times when the stage felt crowded to me or the movements a little flat. I wished for a little more explosive energy, passion or skill from the dancers. But what Ballet East may lack in precision, they make up for in community outreach and opportunities. Based on Soaring, I am glad to have them in of Austin’s art world Collapse
