 Portia asks Brutus, “Am I yourself, but, as it were, in sort or limitation, to keep with you at meals, comfort your bed, and talk to you sometimes? While a wedding is the end to many a Shakespeare play, it’s only the beginning of the journey of marriage. After the world wind of romance, comes the hard work of balancing the dynamics of two people, building one life out of two and struggling with jealousy, equality, teamwork and disparate goals. Join us nightly as these actors explore the dynamics of married life as seen through the spouses of Shakespeare’s plays. Each scene reflects a different dynamic, perhaps one you will recognize from your own marriage.

      The intimate nature of The Blue lends itself well to this night of Shakespeare's love scenes. Jill Swanson's direction takes some of the most familiar stories from the Bard and presents them in a romantic and compelling manner. Of particular interest are the scenes from Taming of the Shrew with Michael Amendola and Bridget Farias. You will be thrown for a loop with the interesting changes from the original script. There are also two very well done scenes from Julius Ceaser which were very memorable. At only 45 minutes, this show is a perfect way to get your Shakespeare fix this weekend. Collapse

      Though short, this show gives full value for the price of a ticket. Jill Swafford put the piece together in just two short weeks but it has the polish of a much longer ramp; a credit to her and her... Expand

      Though short, this show gives full value for the price of a ticket. Jill Swafford put the piece together in just two short weeks but it has the polish of a much longer ramp; a credit to her and her cast. It relies on the talent of the actors to give the scenes punch- some come through harder than others but that's to be expected any time you take scenes out of their native play structure. Look for a great performance by Alex Villareal in the Julius Ceasar scene and some very good work by Michael Amendola and Bridget Farias as Petruchio and Kate; Jill's take on the Shrew is aimed at a conclusion of equality but takes you through some uncomfortable places along the way (seeing Kate on her hands and knees eating meat like a dog was very disturbing and certainly not a "regular" choice for the scene; Jill is bolder than most here). This is the kind of show you start a good date with... provocative stuff about marriage that won't take up your whole evening. White wine theater. Collapse
