The festivities begin with recognition of the school at an Austin City Council meeting on March 25th @ 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Austin’s Mayor Lee Leffingwell will read a proclamation declaring March 28th Armstrong Community Music School Day and Walter Tragert, one of ACMS’s Early Childhood Music teachers will perform the title song from his latest CD, Rough Day at the Sandbox.
On Friday, March 26 @ 7:30 pm ACMS will host a 10th Anniversary Benefit Concert with proceeds to benefit the ACMS Music Scholarship Fund. The Concert will feature Tosca String Quartet, Darden Smith, Vincent Frittelli and outstanding faculty and students of ACMS.
The concert will be held in Ducloux Hall located at 901 Barton Springs Road. Tickets are $50 and can be reserved by calling 472-5992. The benefit will honor James Armstrong & Larry Connelly, Mary Ann & Andrew Heller, Bill Dickson and Margaret Perry. Champagne and Birthday cake will be served.
On Sunday, March 28, 2:00-5:00 pm ACMS will open the doors of the Mary Ann Heller Opera Center for a free reception for the community. The open house will feature music performances, demo classes and information about the numerous music educational opportunities available at ACMS. The family event welcomes children of all ages. Complimentary snacks will be served by our sponsors: Saint Arnold Root Beer, Blue Bell Ice Cream and Tiff’s Treats.
