Sculptor Steve Dubov announces the installation of his temporary work of public art, Barton Barriers, viewable along South Lamar Boulevard at Barton Skyway.

The piece takes objects that are normally viewed as heavy and unattractive and imbues them with light and a tumbling verticality. Nine-hundred-pound pieces of industrial plastic are used like Legos® to create a barrier-bending installation reminiscent of Jessica Stockholder’s work or John Chamberlain’s car-crash expressionism. Serious practicality suddenly becomes playful and inviting.

Barton Barriers will be installed over an 8-hour period, March 13, from 9 am to 5 pm. The public is invited to watch a team of artists install the work.
