Essential Cinema:Violence at Noon
March 30, 2010
Add Review/Comment
An amoral drifter enters a home to terrorize a maid (Shino), whom he has known earlier on a farm, but he ends up raping and killing the mistress of the house. Eisuke continues his serial violations/murders with Shino as witness and accomplice. Strangely, Shino begins writing Eisuke’s wife (a schoolteacher) to let her know what her husband is really doing. Told with flashbacks and reportedly over 2000 edits, VIOLENCE AT NOON proved Oshima to be a master of the creative film form.
