The Baron's Men have hit a new low. Please join us wallowing in the gutter with our new show The Bawdy Five. The Bawdy Five is Medieval smut at its best..err..worst. Well, you know what we mean. Experience the naughtiest tales from Chaucer, the Decameron, and more with cuckolding, pregnant nuns, wicked stepmothers, horny monks, dirty limericks, live music from Carmina Burana and the works. You'll laugh your you know what off.

In case the picture doesn't say it all. THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR CHILDREN. Please love them and don't bring them.

      Geoffrey Chaucer and Giovanni Bocaccio were around long before Hugh Hefner and Larry Flynt were. Despite the highly strict outward veneer, the Middle Ages had its share of bawdy, lude humor. The Baron's Men's production of "Bawdy Five" gives us a good sampling of it with five short plays, from the Canterbury Tales and Decameron. Anyone who is interested in some raunch, irreverent, escapist entertainment you didn't think could come out of the Middle Ages will enjoy this. Collapse

      Fun mix of classic stories with contemporary asides. Reminds you that jokes about sex and bodily functions have been amusing humanity for a long time. Not unforgettable or enlightening theatre, but it doesn't try to be. And The Curtain theatre provides a great air of authenticity to the proceedings. If you go, don't be afraid to hoot and holler; this is a show that gets better the rowdier the audience is. Collapse

      The Baron's Men hit the nail on the head with this sexy erotic Medieval play. Played at The Curtain Theatre the surroundings were magical and I felt as if I was taken back to Medieval times and watched this in the actual period of the day. This was a very funny play full of all the humor that you would expect from this great troop. I laughed till I cried as did many in the audience. I honestly had no idea that Chaucer could be so naughty and funny! The Pregnant nuns was probably my favorite part of the play, bringing out many of the cast and just getting down right comical. If you have a chance get out to The Curtain Theatre and experience this for your self. The Baron's Men have brought back something magical in their outstanding performance. I look forward to seeing many shows by them in the future. Collapse

      The Curtain Theatre sets the initial medieval mood and provides intimate seating for the audience with the stage. As Curtain is an outdoor venue, The Baron's Men hand out free blankets for the performance, but bringing your own blanket and seat cushion can help guarantee comfort. The costumes are lovely and the stage props are simple but creative. The performance is playful with men often dressing as nuns who recite limericks, a few slaps with fake brooms, and plenty of running around the stage with immature drawings of private parts. There is no actual nudity, but the innuendos and language are very R-rated. It is obvious that the performers are having fun, and this sentiment is very contagious for the audience. Potential audience members may feel wary of medieval or Shakespearian theater as stuffy or over their head, but Director Casey Weed does an excellent job (with The Baron's Men) of keeping it easily accessible for both the familiar and unfamiliar in traditional theatre alike!       As promised, The Baron's Men have delivered a nice mix of historical silliness with just enough modern touches to keep it accessible. Sex is funny; always has been, always will be. This troupe delivers the timeless gags cleverly and "tastefully" -- that is, without falling into needless shock tactics. BTW, for anyone worried about such things, there's no actual nudity; just silly depictions thereof. This show doesn't have the punch of one of their Shakespeare productions, but then it's meant to be silly and fun. ...and it is. Collapse
