Benefiting Livestrong Foundation and The Paramount Theatre, the concert kicks off the Austin Marathon/Half-Marathon and Break-A-Leg 5K weekend!

Four of Texas' finest singer-songwriters will share the stage in the intimate setting of the Paramount Theatre . Texas troubadour Joe Ely, honky-tonk hero Billy Joe Shaver, Americana favorite Slaid Cleaves and rising star Amy Cook will perform in an acoustic "guitar pull" format at this benefit for the Livestrong Foundation and the historic Paramount Theatre. There will be a silent auction featuring yellow Nike caps commemorating Lance Armstrong's Tour de France victories autographed by sports stars and celebrities like cycling great Eddy Merckx, baseball legend Nolan Ryan, golfer Ben Crenshaw and many others. Don't miss this chance to hear some of Austin's most treasured performing artists and support two great causes.

      It's a good thing Austin is so casual & loves live music and listens appreciatively, esp. to some home state heroes (or close enough). The evening did seem somewhat thrown together w/some graphics... Expand

      It's a good thing Austin is so casual & loves live music and listens appreciatively, esp. to some home state heroes (or close enough). The evening did seem somewhat thrown together w/some graphics occasionally displayed in the background and a table selling merch didn't have cd's for all 4 songwriters represented. But oh - the music. Joe Ely-the true Texas icon that he is-never disappoints. His full sound he gets on his guitar fill the space & take you in w/his likeable persona and familiar voice. Billie Joe Shaver seemed like he could care less about being there and his guitar cord worked half the time, but when he dives into Old Five and Dimers Like Me, all is forgiven (plus he is 70 & has been thru enough trying times for 4 lifetimes). Slaid Cleaves is accomplished in both his songwriting & professional presentation w/a voice as smooth as silk. The stand out to me was Amy Cook. With a voice like Eliza, she sings her songs from the soul & was even holding back a bit. She is a gem. Collapse
