Dance Umbrella will proudly host the international Compagnie Julie Dossavi. Gymnast, dancer, and choreographer Julie Dossavi brings live percussionists and a dancer/vocalist to infuse this collection of solos and duets entitled P.I. (Pays) or Presentations Intimes with African dance, percussion, and electronics.  By intertwining electronic dance music and percussion with African dance and gymnastics, Dossavi injects contemporary African dance with powerful explorations of street culture and tribal ritual. A uniquely forceful blend of modern, ethnic, and explosive sound and movement invokes intimacy that Dossavi delivers through riveting athleticism and grace.

      Julie Dossavi delivers a one-woman performance of dance formed at the intersection of traditional Africa and contemporary France. Accompanied by a griot, singer Diarra Papa Gedeon from Mali, Dossavi takes us on a journey both personal and global. The physicality of her dance is powerful; every muscle seems to move, and still she provides the subtlety of intricate mudras sequenced with haunting looks, much like the traditional dance of India. It is well worth a visit to "P.I." to experience world culture through dance, ritual, song and percussion. The trip would not be complete without the outstanding music of Houdayer and Talbot, who appropriately use a blend of electronic music and traditional African percussion instruments like you've never seen.
