North America's ONLY professional tap dance company begins its 2010-2011 season with an innovative exploration of the rhythms of human speech and conversation. Voices of Rhythm will introduce Tapestry's new professional tap company in a gritty urban landscape using dance and multi-media entertainment to enrapt our audiences in the rhythms of humanity. We have brought together some of the finest young hoofers from America, Canada and Australia in order to share the power of contemporary tap dance with the people of central Texas.

      Last night I experienced an exhilarating night with Acia Gray and the Tapestry Dance Company with guest Zell Miller III. Set in an urban back alley, Zell's spoken word performance wove in and through the staccato beats of the dancers. Outstanding ensemble performances by all, but the solos told the individual stories, especially by Siobhan Cook, Travis Knights, Brenna Kuhn and Matt Shields. I loved the combination of spoken word, hip hop, jazz and serenade. All the music was controlled by a woman under the platform at the back of the stage. Another character in the urban landscape. I have been a fan of Tapestry for many years, and with Voices of Rhythm, Acia does not disappoint. You can't leave the theater without a smile on your face. Walking to my car, a student from St. Edward's said she had to come to the show as an assignment. She was not looking forward to it, but now, she was so excited by the performance, she couldn't wait to tell her friends. Another fan is born. Collapse

      VOICES OF RHYTHM: a Rhymic Tour through Spoken Word and Groove is a tour through the not-so-nice part of the city where young people stuggle to connect to each other and to their urban world. Poet Zell Miller III creates an atmosphere filled with the angry yet hopeful rhythms of 21st century youth. Tapestry's awesome new professional company uses body rhythms and amazing rhythm tap to transform hip-hop inspired beat poetry and heart-pounding rhythms into an experience of our shared human condition like no other you've seen before. Opening night was packed with people who just couldn't mute their excitement. This show will make you NEED to move and shout and love life and dance. Don't miss it. Two performances Saturday and one Sunday. You've never seen a show like it. . . It ain't The Ballet! Collapse
