In an era when female singer-songwriters are ever more prevalent, Shawn Colvin stands out as an enduring talent with a remarkable voice and matchless guitar. In the 19 years since the release of her debut album, Colvin has won three GRAMMY Awards, released eight albums, maintained a non-stop national and international touring schedule, appeared on countless television and radio programs, had her songs featured in major motion pictures, and created a remarkable cannon of work. Her seductive storytelling remains a constant from her mega hit, “Sunny Came Home” to her 2009 release, Shawn Colvin Live.

      I've twice had the experience of watching one talented person with a guitar and marveling at how little it takes to create a wholly immersive musical experience, while a six-piece band can still struggle to achieve the most basic level of musicality. The first time was watching Simon Townshend in a tiny lounge in 2002. The second was watching Shawn Colvin on Friday. I've admired her work for nearly two decades, but this was my first chance to see her live, and I was not disappointed. The One World Theatre is the ideal place for this kind of intimate show. There appear to be no bad seats in the main room, and the sound was flawless--detailed and clear. Colvin's guitar work is unsurprisingly solid and dynamic; the real treat is that voice--I'd call it silky, but it's closer to chocolate mousse: airy, smooth, and sweetly dark. Collapse

      This was my first trip to the One World Theatre and I can't think of a better introduction. The theatre is suprisingly intimate and it was the perfect setting to enjoy Shawn Colvin. With just her voice and her guitar, Ms. Colvin held the audience spellbound for her two-hour show. She played a variety of songs from all of her albums as well as a few cover tunes, and even entertained requests from the audience. Seeing Colvin in person was a real treat. Her voice is as lovely live as it is on her albums. Plus, seeing her live reinforced what a gifted guitarist she is. And, seeing her in such an intimate setting really showcased her songwriting skills. It was a delightful evening and that left me humming all the way home. Collapse
