      I had never seen the Austin Symphony before and now I'm wondering why. I'm not a classical music nut but I certainly appreciate it and I haven't seen much classical music live although I have seen... Expand

      I had never seen the Austin Symphony before and now I'm wondering why. I'm not a classical music nut but I certainly appreciate it and I haven't seen much classical music live although I have seen some. In the first half we were treated to guest artist Christopher O' Riley, very humorous host of NPR's From The Top. His glorious piano playing was light and efforless - a perfect interpretation of the Mozart piece w/the symphony accompanying in great balance. I read the program after the show and so only then realized his impressive resume. He received a well deserved standing ovation. The second half again featured the Symphony but this time without O' Riley, playing a Mahler piece I was not familiar with. Again, I read the program after the show, and so was pleasantly surprised to read that the intro is spring awakening, bc that is precisely the vision the music brought to my head. The acoustic genius of Dell Hall was made for a Symphony - loud enough but not overwhelming. Collapse
