Evil Dead, The Musical makes its Central Texas premiere this October at Salvage Vanguard Theatre in Austin.

With the approval of film director Sam Raimi and star Bruce Campbell, a musical version of the film Evil Dead was staged. The musical takes creative liberty with the plot line of the cult film trilogy, mixing together the characters and concepts of all three. The original production enjoyed a successful run in Toronto and Montreal. The show went on to gain favorable responses from both critics and audiences during its 2006-2007 off-Broadway run.

      As a big fan of the cult classic film, I went in with some high expectations. Let me tell you now that all of these expectations were blown away. Campy, raunchy, evil, and funny as a dancing Zombie... Expand

      As a big fan of the cult classic film, I went in with some high expectations. Let me tell you now that all of these expectations were blown away. Campy, raunchy, evil, and funny as a dancing Zombie could be. The cast was phenominal, especially David Gallagher as the most badass demon killer ever, and Corley Pillsbury as the neverending pun throwing demon sister. Talented singers, great campy choreo, and some blood and guts galore. My advice......sit in the SPLASH ZONE!!!! Get your tickets now.....and COME GET SOME!! Collapse

      So I went to the show not knowing what to expect - I've never seen any of the Evil Dead movies. I was so surprised by how funny the show was!! I thought the cast was really great, with extra evil... Expand

      So I went to the show not knowing what to expect - I've never seen any of the Evil Dead movies. I was so surprised by how funny the show was!! I thought the cast was really great, with extra evil props to David Gallagher, who mixes leading man charm with great vocals and even greater comedic timing in the role of Ash. The choreography was perfectly campy. There were some minor sound issues, but overall a very fun evening at the theatre! Highly recommended for those NOT offended by gallons of blood and tons of "choice" words. Collapse

Lines of demons lost to unintelligible shrieks (a need for adjustments in the acoustical brief?) Cast and directors are gifted indeed who make Evil Dead’s script a theatrical feat.... Go see for yourself if it’s a trick or a treat. But buyer beware if you’re hoping like me, For another long running cult show, ala' Rocky. Collapse

      As an Evil Dead "virgin," I wasn't really sure if I would get this show, but the premise sounded hilarious so I had to see it. A lot could go wrong with a show full of singing and dancing demons but... Expand

      As an Evil Dead "virgin," I wasn't really sure if I would get this show, but the premise sounded hilarious so I had to see it. A lot could go wrong with a show full of singing and dancing demons but with the creative yet simple sets and effects and really talented, engaged cast of this one there are no hiccups. David Gallagher is a true leading man and carries the day with tons of energy and great comedic timing. All the singing was impressive, especially that of Gallagher, Corley Pillsbury and Kelly Bales. Pillsbury kept things rolling with her fully committed demon character, and the frequent gags on B-movie tropes didn’t get tiresome. Some of the undead were a little less thrilling than others but overall the cast and production delivered great fun. Take the splatter zone warnings seriously! Collapse
