It’s highly likely that you’ve seen Willie Barcena on television, but even more likely you’ll probably be seeing more of him, more often, on the small screen. First things first. Among the TV shows you might have spotted Barcena are the syndicated “Culture Clash,” HBO’s “Loco Slam,” Fox’s “The Keenan Ivory Wayans Show,” UPN’s “Moesha,” the WB’s “Wayans Brothers,” and numerous appearances on “The Tonight Show WIth Jay Leno.” Which brings us to the likelihood you’ll be seeing more of Barcena on TV: Through those multiple spots on “The Tonight Show,” Jay Leno became such a Barcena fan that he got him signed to an NBC development and took on the executive producer role through his Big Dog Productions. That project didn’t quite materialize as a series, but other notable entities have since had the same idea, including ABC-TV and Will Smith’s production company, who’ve also teamed up with Barcena in the hope of developing a series. So it seems like just a matter of time before the Willie Barcena show can be seen weekly on network television--with those kinds of champions and supporters, would you want to bet against him? And meanwhile, Barcena’s doing his part, continuing to perform stand-up on television, including “The Tonight Show,” writing for the highly-regarded Nickleodeon television series “Brothers Garcia” and doing his stand-up act in selected club settings, including this engagement at Cap City.
