      It’s not that often that you’re invited to understand the thought processes of the artists you’re privileged enough to see, but with Michelle Schumann it’s all part of the show. This is the third time I’ve seen her (twice before at Villa Antonia) and the first time for Soovin Kim, who also gave a verbal interpretation of the music. It was a perfect combination of performers, wonderful setting at the Unitarian Church, and a great crowd of appreciative people. I guess you can tell I’m a little prejudiced, but when something is that good it’s easy to review. No light show, no special effects, just performers who love what they do and people who are intelligent enough to appreciate it in a place kind enough to have the show. And the music—my God, thanks so much. Collapse

      People think of chamber music as staid, solemn, and proper. When Michelle Schumann is involved those preconceptions float away along with the surroundings when you close your eyes. Saturday... Expand

      People think of chamber music as staid, solemn, and proper. When Michelle Schumann is involved those preconceptions float away along with the surroundings when you close your eyes. Saturday night, went with esposo to the Brahms Violin Sonatas presented by the Austin Chamber Music Center at the First Unitarian Church. Michelle Schumann is the Director of ACMC, in addition to her other work as a performer around the world and as a teacher at Mary Hardin-Baylor. I have seen her 3 times now and try not to miss a chance, because she informs the performance with her narratives about the composer and the times in which each piece was written, and enlivens the piano with her sheer physical joy. This time she played with Soovin Kim, also a performer with numerous major orchestras around the world, and the players complemented each other. Particularly in the last piece with the melody "played on the G string of the violin, and that is just as sexy as it sounds." More at rebablog.wordpress.com Collapse

      It’s not that often that you’re invited to understand the thought processes of the artists you’re privileged enough to see, but with Michelle Schumann it’s all part of the show.
