Experience an evening of innovative dance from eight local choreographers – joyous, raw, beautiful, provocative, personable. A new generation challenges themselves to capture the duality of human beings as creatures of both reason and instinct. Themes explore the introspective, the body as raw material, the aches of passion and escape, and the struggle to find identity. Expand to a voyage through the helix of human potential as it explodes into unique forms, transmitting knowledge and awareness, and seeking to resolve a karmic debt.

      Human/Animal, is an engaging story of "us" and how we relate. From a choreography standpoint, the ensemble pieces are visually engaging and the dancers make great use of space. Where Human/Animal... Expand

      Human/Animal, is an engaging story of "us" and how we relate. From a choreography standpoint, the ensemble pieces are visually engaging and the dancers make great use of space. Where Human/Animal shines, however, is in its solo dancers - some of which are featured in individual performances and some rise to the occasion within the group numbers. Some that I'll note: Kristen Frankiewicz, in "I'm So Alone" sets a modern dance next to a hip-hop beat (with a string section that adds a beautiful contrast). Her strong performance begins and ends in front of a full body mirror that made me wonder if she was dancing for herself, or us? "Simple Reflections" reveals truths about our self-centeredness even while surrounded by sea of people. "Dark Woods/White Night", choreographed and performed by Amber Bright is like a steamy hot Mississippi night, which IS a good thing :) All in all, Human/Animal uses passion, soul, and grace to inspire a unique and captivating experience.       Ninety minutes was not enough for this fabulous show. It could have easily gone another hour and the audience would have been pleased. From solo dances to ensembles, each dance evoked multiple... Expand

      Ninety minutes was not enough for this fabulous show. It could have easily gone another hour and the audience would have been pleased. From solo dances to ensembles, each dance evoked multiple responses including laughter, tears, questions and wonder. Each piece was choreographed by a different person. This eclectic approach gave the audience varied points of view, expanding the experience for everyone in attendance. It was a delightful evening. Collapse
