  Gary Mullen, the Freddy Mercury of the night, did a great job. He came out wearing a Longhorn t-shirt as part of his costume and called us to the stage- but the audience was hesitant to listen. He strutted and joked, he even took pictures of audience members with their own cameras for them, but it took most of the show before much of the audience was out of its seats. His voice was FABULOUS and the music was great. In that way the concert was a hit, but, as the person I went with said, it felt almost like we were watching it on TV. There was not a rock concert feel, which I think came from both the knowledge that this was not actually Queen and, as Gary Mullen put it, much of the audience was unwilling to get off its butts. Despite my wishing that other audience members would scream themselves hoarse, like I did, I had a great night, and I would go to another One Night of Queen. The band rocked and Gary was incredibly engaging. Collapse

  One Night of Queen is a dazzling performance for reliving a select list of classic Queen songs. The band does a fair job, however, the cover band feel is difficult to shake. Gary Mullen (our Freddie Mercury) proves his talents and abilities to replicate the master himself, and does an excellent job of getting audience members out of their seats and charging the stage. When it comes to star struck quality, enthusiasts were a little hesitant to interact or reach forward and touch him as he posed playfully close to the edge of the stage. At least in the beginning! The stage included dazzling light work during the performance. Transitioning to intermission there was a moment to donate to the AIDS Services of Austin and its Capital Area AIDS Legal Project. Support for an important cause and a great performance pulled off with style (and a UT Long Horns shirt!) The U.S. tour began in Austin, TX and will continue on throughout the nation for just One Night of Queen. Collapse
