      It would be difficult to sing adequate praise for the Spirit of Uganda performance at the Long Center. Spirit of Uganda is a triumphant, memorable and educational African dance, drum & song... Expand

      It would be difficult to sing adequate praise for the Spirit of Uganda performance at the Long Center. Spirit of Uganda is a triumphant, memorable and educational African dance, drum & song performance with a visionary mission of raising awareness of the aids crisis in Uganda. Every cast member fell between the ages of eight and eighteen, and had either lost one or both parents or other family members or friends to aids. Yet one would never know it given their joyful spirits and gifted performances. It’s hard to fathom the challenges of a country where more then 50% of the population falls below of age of 15. Perhaps if more theater aspired to and succeeded in raising awareness of the plight of other people in the world, to the degree that Spirit of Uganda does, the world would be a much better place for all humanity.       The Spirit of Uganda was a beautiful performance with engaging costumes, excellent utilization of stage space, and a balanced use of mixed media with lights, projected images, and live song and dance.... Expand

      The Spirit of Uganda was a beautiful performance with engaging costumes, excellent utilization of stage space, and a balanced use of mixed media with lights, projected images, and live song and dance. The narrator presented in English, but the songs (or fables if you will) were sung in native East African languages and dialects. As ambassadors for Uganda's 2.4 million orphans, the young dancers and musicians performed passionately. The audience was thoroughly engaged and participated in dance movements near the end of the performance, and never to sit back down as the audience delivered a theater-wide standing ovation. It is only disappointing that it was for one night only, but surely there is much support for, and anticipation for, future projects from Empower African Children! Collapse
