Just when you thought The Flaming Idiots days of jugglin', jokin', throwin', swallowin', leapin' and conquerin' Broadway were over, Austin brings them back! The Flaming Idiots are returning to ZACH's stage for the sort of theatre circus hilarity that brought them to international acclaim and got them kicked out of Williamson County. Prepare to be amazed as you watch their signature spectacle come to the stage with a bound-for-Broadway reunion act that is far more outrageous than you ever thought theatre could be.

    What fun. Seriously. Three talented jugglers who've seen it all, juggled it all, decide to get back together at Zach Scott's Kleberg Stage for a chance to yuck it up one more time, why the heck wouldn't it be a blast? I'd never seen the Flaming Idiots before, unless it was in the infancy of their group when they'd take the (relatively) free rehearsal room in UT's ROTC building and just play. But I'd never seen them actually perform till this reunion tour of theirs, and I have to say, I'm impressed. What I like most is their understanding and continued practitioning of vaudeville, of the corny jokes cracked while hurling various flaming and non flaming items betwixt them. Actual juggling should be the wow moments, buttressed up by an in between that keeps the audience's appetite whetted for more, and on that, these professionals definitely delivered. Want fun?     I’ve heard great things about this show and I went in expecting all sorts of juggling extravaganzas with the occasional jokes thrown in, whereas the show provided a bit more of the opposite. Granted... Expand
    
    I’ve heard great things about this show and I went in expecting all sorts of juggling extravaganzas with the occasional jokes thrown in, whereas the show provided a bit more of the opposite. Granted I can understand the thought process – the audience will get tired of too much or non-stop juggling antics or the performers will…or maybe they thought we’ve seen it all before. BUT, I left wanting to see more juggling because what they did do was spectacular and innovative, causing me to ooh and aah. The opening fire juggling was a highlight which made me expect a lot more of the same but instead it was heavy on street performance/audience participation/comedy type tricks. Yes it was entertaining and I chuckled often at the jokes. The live 3-piece band was a fantastic added bonus- great songs + music + perfect accompaniment and the outfits on the performers and the musicians were Flaming Idiot appropriate. But one wish remained… more juggling please! Collapse

    "Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Step into the tent. Witness the outrageous, the stupendous, the crazy, athletic and hilarious shenanigans of The Flaming Idiots!" Well, maybe there was no circus barker, but the trio is, in a word, "amazing." (No, I'm not adding "for their age.") T-F-I has brought its show back from retirement (2004) for a "brief revival," and then...nevermore. So, if you missed the troupe in its first 21 years as street performers, at Renaissance festivals, comedy clubs, off-Broadway theatre, overseas or on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno," then hustle down to the Zach's Kleberg stage and enjoy first hand these seasoned performers and their crack-you-up shenanigans. And the live music is a plus! If you enjoy proficient juggling, zany costumes and props, fun music, witty repartee, audience participation, silly tricks, high-energy vaudeville and circus hilarity, you will love (and one day miss) this show.     For a pure taste of vaudeville and plain Monty Pythonesque silliness, treat yourself (and friends) to an evening with The Flaming Idiots. No, “flaming” has nothing to do with GLBT. It has everything to do with “over-the-top” entertainment. Not only is the troupe’s famous logo that hangs from the rafters partially burned and singed, but there is a circle of flames prominently painted on the hardwood floor. Know what to expect. Stars Kevin Hunt (a.k.a. Walter), Jon O’Connor (Pyro) and Rob Williams (Gyro), absent from the circuit for the past five years, have reunited for a reunion tour” complete with all the zany “jugglin’, jokin’, throwin’, swallowin’, leapin’ and conquerin’” audiences as they did for 20 years to international acclaim.     I remember first seeing the Flaming Idiots, made of Pyro, Gyro, and Walter, at the Texas Renaissance Festival back in 1993, and haven't seen them since. I don't remember much about the event, but their act always stood out very clearly. I was glad to hear that they were on a re-union tour, and was not disappointed in the show. They did some of the routines I remember well, such as Pyro climbing on top of a large man from the audience, standing on his shoulders, and juggling torches, and Walter walking in the middle of Pyro and Gyro juggling Bowling Pins. I'm always amazed when I watch physical talents performed with ease- it shows that our world is not quite how we perceive it, which I find very entertaining. Catch the Flaming Idiots while you can!     I’ve heard great things about this show and I went in expecting all sorts of juggling extravaganzas with the occasional jokes thrown in, whereas the show provided a bit more of the opposite.
