    Oscar Casares’s short story collection Brownsville is something our staff loves to recommend – beautiful writing coupled with killer stories. In his debut novel, Amigoland, Casares returns to Brownsville to tell the story of two old men. Brothers, they have let a family argument tear them apart. As they start talking again, they take it upon themselves to get to the bottom of the argument that split them apart in the first place: the family legend of their grandfather’s kidnapping. Casares teaches creative writing at UT, and we highly recommend not only attending this event but taking one of his classes. With a book this well-written and intricately plotted, he’s a great person to learn from. Tonight at 7PM.
