On a stormy night in mid 1600’s England, we find two travelers caught away from home. They seek refuge at a country estate on their way to London, where they meet a gracious host who offers them shelter for the night. During the course of the evening, a challenge is issued between the men with a sum to be settled upon the victor. The wager: Can literature be frightening? This fast paced play will take you on a visual trip through time exploring plays, stories, poetry and music. Our goal is to entertain you, scare you, and show you that – although it might have been written by some old crusty dead guys who talk funny – it can still send a chill up your spine!
Tickets: General Admission $13
Students $9
Seniors over 65 $9
ACoT Members $9
All seating is on a first come, first served basis. The Curtain Theater, a scale replica of the Globe, offers seating at ground level as well as two raised levels accessible via staircases.

Can literature be terrifying? It most certainly can and The Baron's Men have proved that point with their journey through some of history's most disturbing passages. This presentation was not only pleasing to the eye, it was well staged and relentless in it's grip of ones senses. Scene after scene took the audience deeper and deeper into the dark recesses of the macabre, culminating in an event that leaves one nearly breathless. It was worth the trip and I hope anyone who has free time this Friday or Saturday night will consider going to see it. It will stand your hair on end.

My friend and I really enjoyed the Medieval Macabre play at the Curtain Theatre last Saturday night. The talented actors, great story-telling and amazing replica of the Globe Theatre (built by Steve Garriott) brought the feel of Shakespearean England to life. We were treated to fabulous costumes, special effects, puppetry and lighting by torchlight. If you love Shakespeare and history, you'll love this play. It's a great bargain at the price.

The Baron's Men have once again presented a fantastic evening of entertainment, this time of a scary nature. This is a new twist for the Baron's Men and they have pulled it off wonderfully! Cherie Weed did a masterful job with the script and direction. Costuming and special effects are marvelous, with a special hats off to Jennifer Davis. There is more than enough scariness for anyone who likes to see that in a production, along with a few very funny points throughout the play. The setting (Richard Garriot's Curtain Theater) is perfect for this play and you cannot have a bad seat. See it if at all possible, it was worth the drive!

The costumes are incredible, from the chilling banshee to the dark and whimsical skeletons. (Note: the loss of a half-star was not due to the show itself, but due to the occasional noise from boats on nearby Lake Travis. Not a big deal, but slightly distracting at times.) Overall: Even those unfamiliar with Shakespeare will find themselves chilled and entertained by this hour and a half show. Highly recommended!

I saw this show last night and was very impressed. It's an original concept blending historical work with an original narrative. It was visually stunning and a fun start to the Halloween season.
