Called “ a testament to the virtues of laughing,” Fabulous is the retelling of the bible with Adam and Steve; Jane and Mabel beginning in the Garden of Eden and, after being banished, the quartet survives the centuries including time on the
ark, slavery in Egypt and finally life in contemporary New York. Simultaneously campy and
thoughtful, Paul Rudnick’s play is a delightful mélange of hilarious one-liners, philosophical
introspection and a celebration of the very fabulousness of gay culture (and otherwise) throughout
the ages.

This was a fun and enlightening way of seeing the "creation" play out! The sexual preferences of the characters were believable in the context of the play and they did a great job of performing some difficult scenes. I laughed out loud often. There were some very touching moments as well. I enjoyed the "stage hand's" monologues with "setting the scenes" each day, she was hilarious! I liked the simplicity of the the sets and the costumes, it was enough to get the general idea across, without being a distraction. I also enjoyed the little theater, very intimate. I didn't know this theater was here, so I am very glad to know it now! I was NEVER offended by anything I saw on stage and only offended by some of the "hate mail" that came in from SO CALLED Christians and their THREATS against an art form. It's a PLAY people, get a life! "God" doesn't need you policing the planet!

Lesson Learned #1: 11 Commandments (The first 10 plus don't wear white after labor day!)
Lesson Learned #2: Love, Faith, and Understanding takes time and patience.
As controversial as this play has been in media, religious groups, etc...there is something that those "against" the play are missing. The message! Under the hilarity of this very well performed comedy, there is a deep message of love. That it isn't easy. But that when you have faith in that love, you can overcome even the hardest of obstacles. I enjoyed this play so very much and commend the actors, director, and The City Theatre for not only a great performance but having the class and dignity to put up with all the hate!

I too read the reviews of the show before attending recently. I am glad I did! They prepared me (somewhat) for the two hours of non-stop fun, laughter, and sheer craziness I had to endure before the show ended. Oh well! I knew it would be out-RAGEOUS by the sheer fact that it portrays the story from the points of view of Adam and Steve, and of the second original couple-Mable and Jane. A talented, energetic casts bring the story to life and also into your heart. While it is wildly funny and bawdy, it is also a thought-provoking journey of epic proportions that will no doubt shock and delight. Hmmmmmmmm? Delightful shocks and shocking delights... that might well be my mini review of a play that was greatly enjoyed by those in attendance, which included: homosexuals and heterosexuals, men and women, singles and marrieds.. just the kind of folks who enjoy laughing and having a great time at a great performance! What to join in and experience the fun? There is still time to see the show.

I had the pleasure of attending opening night of FABULOUS and was pleased to find a huge audience waiting (particularly for a weekday evening). The first thing that struck me while milling about the lobby was the pile of hundreds (thousands?) of form-letter type postcards from protestors who, though never having seen the show, "knew" it was blasphemous, disgusting, and/or [fill in the negative word of your choice]. The fact is, this play was a comedic farce of the highest order. Though tremendously funny, it also had moments of heartbreak, as people of all persuasions experience in life. I highly recommend seeing it, not only for its hilarity but as a lesson in humanity.

Based on the reactions of fellow audience members, I'd be willing to speculate it was received by all as a hit. Great cast, well-executed, and very funny. I also liked their display in the lobby demonstrating the protest responses they've gotten regarding the production. Definitely a must-see! (for mature audiences)

Dude, Most Fabulous is the shiz-nit. Yes, it's controversial but protesters have forgotten all art has a message. There's stories of love, but not in the "happily ever after" sort of way. It honestly shows couples in love, even couples who have been together for thousands of years, will still have disagreements and tough decisions to make. They show people from all backgrounds can still find common ground and have long-lasting friendships (but still playfully tease one another). The play does address arguments presented against those who directly (and some with shocking amounts of hate) oppose the lifestyle of the main characters. Even if you find yourself as an opponent of the play, I encourage you to put aside whatever prejudices you might have, come with an open mind (but leave the kids at home), and in the end you might find you're more alike than you thought. Bottom line - mark your calendar, clear your schedule, and find a way to get to The City Theatre to see this show.
