THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. This wonderful adaptation of C.S. Lewis' classic faithfully recreates the magic and mystery of Aslan, the great lion, his struggle with the evil White Witch, and the adventures of four children who inadvertently wander through an old wardrobe into the never-to-be-forgotten land of Narnia. This story of love, faith, courage and giving, with its triumph of good over evil, is a true celebration of life. A show for all ages including all of the favorite Narnia characters.

      I always look forward to seeing how adult theaters fare with material aimed for younger audiences. City Theatre's production of "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" does not disappoint, relying on the skill of the actors and a movement ensemble to create the wonder of Narnia, rather than using elaborate sets or lighting. All of the actors embody the physical attributes of their characters extremely well, especially Fiona Rene as Mrs. Beaver, Bobby DiPasquale as Mr. Beaver, and Austin Rausch as Mr. Tumnus. The members of the ensemble move beautifully and are exceedingly interesting to watch. However, their skill in movement often pulled focus away from the main action. Toning down the volume and quickness of their movements when other characters were speaking would allow for an easier following of the storyline, especially for audience members not familiar with Narnia lore. Staging problems aside, I encourage readers to see the production, with or without children in tow. Collapse
