In popular culture, Carreras is best known for being the youngest member of “The Three Tenors” along with Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo in the 1990s. Respected and adored as an opera singer, Carreras brings his powerful vocal talent to Austin audiences for one night only. His voice has been described as clear, true and sensual. His boundless vocal energy not only presents a musical story, but virtually transmits it to audiences in epic vibrational strokes that leave audiences profoundly awakened.

      After seeing "The Three Phantoms" two years ago, I was really looking forward to the opportunity to see Mr. Carreras, one of the greatest Opera singers of our time. Arguably the least famous of The Three Tenors (with Luciano Pavorotti and Placido Domingo), Mr. Carreras presented a powerful program of arias accompanied simply by his pianist of 21 years on a stark stage. While age has taken a bit of a toll on his vocal range and power, it was obvious to all in attendance why his career has been so renowned for so long. The charisma was immediately evident, and the subtle nuances and rich characterizations transported us all to the stories told by each opus. There was no amplification provided, and none was needed, as his voice filled the expansive Bass Concert Hall perfectly, creating an intimate environment juxtaposed with the large touring productions that frequent the space. If you have the opportunity to experience this wonderful talent, don't hesitate. Bravo! Collapse

      From the scene in Seinfield..."Pavarotti, Domingo and, you know...that other guy" to the beautiful voice on the Bass stage - I was entranced as I listened to Jose Carreras. Obviously, the Austin Allergen Attack plagued the singer from the moment he stepped on stage - but he never missed a note as he sang his way through a wonderful program. It was unfortunate that Mr. Carreras had to leave the stage after every other song to manage the allergy issue - but he more than made up for the breaks with his performance of each piece. Pulling eight songs from his vast repertoire, the audience followed each note, each movement, supporting him as much as the piano on stage. Lorenzo Bavaj as his accompanist was perfection on the ivories. I loved catching him singing along with - or mouthing the words -as Jose sang several of the songs . Two encores later the evening had ended - but not the experience. Collapse
