A student of the great Arthur Schnabel, Leon Fleisher became one of the world's premier classical pianists as a young man. Then, at the height of his career, he was struck with an affliction that rendered two fingers on his right hand immobile. He turned to conducting and teaching while learning the limited repertoire for left hand piano. And again he was outstanding. Then recently, thanks to modern medecine, he got the use of his hand back. It was like a miracle. His story is the subject of an Oscar and Emmy nominated documentary titled Two Hands. How very special to have him, and his wife, Katherine Jacobson Fleisher, here in Austin to begin Austin Symphony's new season.

The Fleishers provide an evening program including Mozart's Symphony No. 31 and Concerto in F Major, Ravel's Piano Concerto in D Major and Rapsodie Espagnole
