Teatro Vivo’s bilingual comedy offers a farcical look at a community facing a food shortage during a difficult economic time. It takes a look into the lives of two couples struggling between good and starvation.  

Antonia and Margarita are magicians at paying bills without money, cooking gourmet meals with pet food, and lying to their husbands. When the neighborhood supermarket begins to double their prices of food and the local factory is laying off 6,000 employees, the neighborhood panics, setting off a chain reaction of lies, mishaps, pregnant 80 year old women and a “miracle” by Santa Eulalia.

¡Ay, Dios mio! Who said a recession couldn't be funny?

      When I entered SVT Saturday night, there was a sense of vibrant anticipation in the audience. Things started with high energy as Karen Alvarado began animatedly telling her friend, played by Juanita Rivas, exactly how she was able to purchase her groceries with no money. The ensuing story, told bilingually but still understandably to someone who is not, took incredible twists and turns which had the audience chuckling as the two women worked hard to not get caught in the string of outrageous lies they created. The highly spirited performance continued as the husbands, played by Mario Ramirez and Leonel Garza were sent on a wild goose chase to try and prevent a premature baby transplant - and additional diversion was created by their encounters various authorities, all played convincingly by JT Bundick. This farcical play brings to light some serious, important questions- I left feeling both entertained and challenged, and look forward to seeing what Teatro Vivo tackles next. Collapse

      When I entered SVT Saturday night, there was a sense of vibrant anticipation in the audience. Things started with high energy as Karen Alvarado began animatedly telling her friend, played by Juanita Rivas, exactly how she was able to purchase her groceries with no money.
