Star contemporary poet Dean Young will read with emerging poet Abe Louise Young (no relation) at your favorite feminist bookstore. Cupcakes will be provided at a do-it-yourself decoration station. Don't miss this dazzling night of poetry!

About Dean Young, the poet Charles Simic has said, "Although his work comes out of the poetries of Kenneth Koch, John Ashbery and Frank O'Hara and James Tate, Young has his own voice. The language, the invention, the imagination and the sheer fun of his poems is astounding. It's not all dazzle either. The poems are also moving. This man reminds us that there is nothing more serious than a joke." Dean Young is currently the William Livingston Chair of Poetry at the University of Texas, in Austin.

Abe Louise Young was born in New Orleans, LA, and holds degrees from Smith College, Northwestern University, and the University of Texas at Austin. She began teaching creative writing in community settings at age 18, and has brought workshops to hospitals, prisons, public schools, and museums across the country. Her poems have received the Academy of American Poets' Prize, the Nell Altizer Prize in Poetry from the Hawai'i Review, a James Michener Fellowship, and other honors, and been published recently in New Letters, Bloom, Terrain, and Verse Daily. She's Editor of oneanthology, Hip Deep: Opinion, Essays, and Vision from American Teenagers, and author of one manuscript of poems, Little Big Bang, and is at work on a memoir.
