VORTEX Repertory Company--now celebrating its 21st season of stunning original work--boldly and bravely presents the world premiere of an enchanting new American musical, The Secret Lives of the InBetweeners by Austin playwright and composer Aaron Brown. VORTEX typically produces provocative work. But with The Secret Lives of the InBetweeners the biggest shock is that its just plain fun. You won’t believe it until you see it—VORTEX’s brand-new, musical comedy! With riveting live music, an inspiring score, and a supremely talented cast of actors, VORTEX once again reinvents the musical theatre genre with this captivating production. Will Charlotte ever find her dream man? Can Joe escape the shadow of his Mother? Will Hope overcome Fear? This is the mind of the Urban Hipster, and these are The Secret Lives of the InBetweeners. From the theater that recently received B. Iden Payne Awards for Outstanding Production of Musical Theater (Troades: The Legend of the Women of Troy) and Outstanding Director of Musical Theater (Bonnie Cullum), comes a production unlike any other ever produced by local boundary-breaking artists of VORTEX Repertory Company. The production combines VORTEX’s skill in producing original works with dynamic music, crisp designs, and powerful performances. VORTEX Producing Artistic Director Bonnie Cullum directs The Secret Lives of the InBetweeners with musical direction and arrangements by New York Guest Artist Chris Lavely. Prolific Austin playwright Aaron Brown’s previous plays, Hysteria, The Bridge Burner, Norm L, and The M.O. of M.I. have all debuted at The VORTEX; with The M.O. of M.I. made into a feature film. VORTEX award-winning designers Ann Marie Gordon (scenery) and Jason Amato (lighting) contribute vibrant scenic projections. Pam Fletcher Friday designs costumes and Roy Taylor designs sound. The Secret Lives of the InBetweeners features a stellar cast with award-winning VORTEX Repertory Company artists Betsy McCann, Jo Beth Henderson, and Errich Petersen. In addition VORTEX introduces the exquisite talents of newcomer Sarah Gay in her Austin debut, and the VORTEX debuts of Jonathan G. Itchon, Rudy Ramirez, Trey Deason, and Jennifer Coy. Don’t miss discovering The Secret Lives of the InBetweeners in its world premiere. You’ll want to say you saw it here first!
