A cross-generational and cross-cultural performance presented by Austin Dance India, this collaborative performance reconnects, after many years, three of Austin’s best dancer/ choreographers who are very diverse. Anuradha Naimpally, in collaboration with Toni Bravo and Sharon Marroquin—all nominated “Best Of “ by Austin Area Critics’ Circle over the years, presents a unique performance that includes an ensemble of dancers from ages 6 to 84 yrs. Inspired by the lives of three extraordinary women in history, Jhansi Ki Rani, the 19th century warrior princess from India, Saint Teresa de Avila, the 16th century saint from Spain, and Edith Piaf, the 20th century singer from France. Each woman lived a fascinating life from heart wrenching tragedy to moments of ecstatic joy. As diverse as each of them were, they lived with an incredible amount of determination and perseverance.
Anuradha Naimpally, artistic director of AustinDanceIndia brings her mesmerizing stage presence and skill in Bharata Natyam classical dance of India. She has been nominated twice and chosen once as Best Dancer by the Austin Area Critics’ Circle. She is joined by two critically acclaimed Austin dancers/choreographers, Toni Bravo and Sharon Marroquin, both of whom bring their own unique flair to this project. This performance marks the reunion of Anuradha and Toni after 8 years and as well as Anuradha with long time Austin performer, Gina Lalli, after more than a decade. Sponsored in part by the City of Austin Cultural Contract Division and by the Texas Commission on the Arts, as well as the Indian Classical Music Circle of Austin.
