Presented by the Austin School of Film, a non-profit training ground for independent film, art, and technology. Our goal is to educate, train, and develop emerging artists of all ages to be active participants in shaping our 21st century culture.
About WIZARDS: An adept, kid-friendly exploration into the malevolent power of propaganda, WIZARDS tells the story to two warring wizard-brothers vying to be the ruler of a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Weaving together 'Disney' design with painted live-action war and archival footage (including Adolph Hitler speeches used as a weapon on the battlefield), Bakshi here creates a completely original world where magic and technology fight their own battle alongside the plot. A truly remarkable film, full of fantastic, and sometimes brutal, imagery.
About STREET FIGHT: At (black)face value, STREET FIGHT (aka COONSKIN) might be the most offensive, racist, malicious, evil film that has ever been produced- but the message Bakshi intended isn't skin deep. Although praised by critics, it suffered at the box office after protesters forced intended distributor Paramount to sell off the rights to Bryanston Releasing, who then fanned the flames by restructuring the marketing effort toward further provocation. Today, the film is generally regarded as a groundbreaking document of racism in America. Featuring voice work by Scatman Crothers, Barry White and Charles Gordone.
