If only Desert Dance Production of "Sister Moses, The Story of Harriet Tubman" could be seen by everyone living in the U.S! This moving, educational interpretive dance/story of theatrical magic gave the audience a deep sensory experience of just how miserably slaves were treated. And this form of storytelling is what made Harriet Tubmans’ life
story of visionary courage and faith, all the more inspiring. From the dancers and beautifully narrated storytelling, to the question & answer period, to the sharing of food that slaves most often ate, to the demonstration of Capoeira, the secret martial arts-like dance of Brazilian slaves, audience members were taken back in time to bear
witness to one of the darkest periods of US history. I think all left feeling deeply humbled to be honoring and celebrating one womans’ heroic journey. Harriet Tubman not only overcame and escaped the darkness of slavery, abuse and terror,
but risked her own life over and over again...

This was my first time seeing this production, but I will most definitely see if again as well as recommend it to others.Everything was done with such great passion. The acting, the dance, the narration, EVERYTHING! The dancers were totally on point with every move...they represented their dance schools very well. Last but not least being able to speak with the dancers was a very special opportunity. It was such a pleasure to speek with Renee Davis (Harriet) at the reception, her openess was a great connection of the freedom of her movement in dance. I give a standing ovation to Renee and this wonderful cast!

I have seen this performance in Phoenix and Chandler AZ and thoroughly enjoyed it each time. A very powerful performance about an incredible woman who made a profound impact on the history of our country. Sister Moses is a wonderful illustration of how passionately Harriet Tubman believed that she was not free until all of her people were free.
A must see - especially for the youth.

Renee Davis knows how to dance the character to life; along with the many performers, Commentator and choir singing. I have seen it get better with each new performance. This is a must see.

I've seen the Sister Moses production at least five times in Arizona, both as a teacher and community member. It is a beautiful depiction of the life of Harriett Tubman, with powerful and moving dance, vocal and instrumental talent. Each time I've seen the program, I've been moved to tears. It's a great experience for children and will provide many teachable moments.

I started bringing Sister Moses to the 1500 seat Chandler Center for the Arts in 1992. We sell out two shows for students every year. Students attend from my school district, Chandler, as well as from many other schools in a 20 mile radius. The program is staged with high production values and is perfect for grades 3 through high school(although we generally target 5th grade and the social studies students 8-12th grade). The dancing, singing, and narration tell a powerful story and captivates the audience. The evening program each year is a wonderful event for the community and is well attended. I can't say enough about the quality of the people in the Desert Dance Theatre organization. Artistic directors Renee Davis and Lisa Chow will work dilgently to make the program successful at your venue. I know you will be quite pleased with the content and quality of the program and your working relationship with Desert Dance Theatre.
