From the ambiance of the Curtain Theatre through the memorable production to the hot cocoa and cider, this was the most fun I've had in live theatre in years. The comments I overheard at intermission from the attendees focused for the most part on the great comedic performances provided by the characters of Lucentio and Bianca. The entire cast provided lots of giggles throughout, and their timing was spot on. Costumes were Broadway quality and set transitions were smooth. Kudos to The Baron's Men on a delightful and accurate portrayal of this classic piece. Bravo!

Just attending the TAMING OF THE SHREW with it's wonderful actors, makes you think back to what it must have been like at the GLOBE so long ago. Thank you, Free Night of Theatre, for giving me the opportunity to attend this well done play.

The setting had an old-fashioned feel to it and the actors were on their game. I would recommend this to anyone that wants to have a little culture in their life. Can't wait for the next production!

The Baron's Men have served up great fun with their rendition of The Taming of the Shrew. They seem to look for comedy anywhere possible, often times finding it in the least likely of places. Take for example the roles of the two young lovers: normaly played fairly straight, The Barons Men have turned these characters into high farce and milk them for laughs. I was surprised to see so many women playing men's roles in this production, but it worked well as they were played well by the women of The Baron's Men. The music was wonderful, played by live musicians (one of them was in the cast as servent Grumio), the costumes were spectacular and the torchlit stage was beautiful. The modest price of this show was well worth the cost and I highly recommend The Taming of the Shrew.

The Taming of the Shrew is one of my favorite of Shakespeare's plays, and The Baron's Men acting troupe kept me laughing. I've done a lot of theater, so when I saw the preview (essentially the dress rehearsal) I was surprised and delighted that they knew their lines, and comic timing was perfect. The actor playing Lucentio needs to speak louder, and a couple of the women could slow down. My friend Jen Davis is in the play, but her beard and costume are so good that I couldn’t pick her out until intermission, when she sang a song. (She’s playing 3 roles, at least, most behind the scenes.) I learned afterward that she took on the acting role only 2 weeks ago. The replica stage, costumes, lighting and site transport you to 16th-century England. It feels like you’re waaay out in the country, but it’s less than 30 min. from downtown Austin. Wear something warm, and bring a cush for your tush or rent one there, complete with back, for $1. They also have snacks and drinks.

Shakespeare isn't easy to bring to today's audiences, but the Baron's Men do a great job, most notably because you can tell they enjoy what they're doing. The funny parts are played to the hilt, making them genuinely funny, and they go out of their way to keep things easy to follow and uncomplicated while still staying true to Shakespeare's twisted plots. The theater is wonderful too, with the rare exception of radio noise coming from boaters on nearby Lake Austin... but those were short and infrequent distractions. Overall the show was a great time, and highly recommended!
