The Blue Theater will house the opening night of Aggressive Muse Productions' debut show, The Positively Serene Death of Sir Ritter Hans von Wittenstein zu Wittenstein, more intimately referred to as Ritter Hans. Written by theater veteran Josie Collier with Kate Meehan, Ritter Hans adapts Jean Giraudoux's Ondine (1939) to a surprising genre: rock fantasy. Through modern language and poignant music, Ritter Hans presents Giraudoux's tale of a nymph's love for a mortal man from the perspective of Hans' journey, a tragic story of a man trapped between two powerful women's desires. The production will feature original music by Tamara Jolaine, custom costumes by Tara Braddock Design, and professional hair and makeup by Christopher Broussard, played against a minimalist set and ethereal lighting.Ritter Hans adapts Jean Giraudoux's Ondine (1939) to a surprising genre: rock fantasy.       Aggressive Muse productions lives up to its name with this dark and disturbing production. There’s lots of imagination on display. Some actors are superb, while others speak as if mumbling into a... Expand

      Aggressive Muse productions lives up to its name with this dark and disturbing production. There’s lots of imagination on display. Some actors are superb, while others speak as if mumbling into a cell phone. The best is Tamara Jolaine as Ondine, the water nymph -- energetic, alluring, vulnerable and emotive. The Chamberlain (Alex Pippard) and the Superintendent (mustachioed co-author Kate Meehan) are fine actors. But the plot -- it's as if the authors took the gossamer fabric of French author Giradoux and wrapped it around the Weird Sisters and the murderers from Macbeth, then gave them a couple of hard kicks to get the action started. They saturate the text with weirdness, decadent carousing, and violent striving for power. Timothy McKinney as the Sea King brought moody conviction to his role. Costumes were brilliant in color and generally captivating in conception. Ondine's garb and makeup were particularly appropriate. For more, see http://austinlivetheatre.blogspot.com Collapse
