An action packed tragedy, "Macbeth" tells of the dangers of the lust for power and the betrayal of friends with a mirror to a global setting and culture. William Shakespeare wrote "Macbeth" in the first decade of the 15th century and set the story in Scotland and six hundred years later, Austin Shakespeare is re-imagining the classic tale with markedly non-traditional costumes, actors, and with an intercontinental twist. Austin Shakespeare alumnus and award-winning Austin actor Marc Pouhé will perform as the tragic hero Macbeth and the role of Lady Macbeth is played by Sharron Bower, herself an Austin Shakespeare alumnus The production features new contemporary music inspired by the work of Benjamin Britten, Stravinsky, and the movie "Psycho," composed by Dr. Michael McKelvey, Area Coordinator of the St. Edward's University Music Department. Production designs for both scenery and costumes are created by Michelle Ney, Head of Design & Technology at Texas State University and lighting for "Macbeth" is set by the award-winning Austin designer Jason Amato.

Macbeth was written in the first decade of the 1600s, which is the 17th century, only 400 years ago. Btw, it's Shakespeare's shortest play. I am taking my daughter this Sunday, looking forward to it!
