    allgo is thrilled to present Nappy Grooves, an all-Black drag king troupe, and their  performance workshop, "Where is the Queer in Black Revolutionary Politics?” Founded in 2003 and originally based in Oakland, California the Nappy Grooves brothas have a mission to perform anti-racist, feminist, fiercely political, fun, funky drag. They have performed at Women's Weekend in Guerneville, CA, Homo Hop festival in Oakland, CA, the San Francisco Dyke March and San Francisco Gay Pride.

    Two venues for this two-part program:
    Afternoon discussion at the John Warfield Center for African & African American Studies at the University of Texas, Austin
    Evening show and dance party, “Too Hot To Handle: Can You Take the Heat?” at the Victory Grill.

    Workshop/Discussion: Where is the Queer in Black Revolutionary Politics?

    Aimed at addressing issues of drag and racial performance, specifically performing Black characters and cultures. Participants will be invited to talk about these issues using our own numbers as a starting point for discussion. This is event is supported by the University of Texas, Austin’s John L. Warfield Center for African & African American Studies.

    Dance Party & Performance: “Too Hot To Handle: Can You Take the Heat?”

    Featuring DJ Phillip Alexander spinning house and performances by the Nappy Grooves! Party starts at 7:00 pm with performances beginning at 9:00 pm.
