Paraphernalia
March 8-March 22, 2008
Add Review/CommentAlthough the dictionary loosely defines paraphernalia as 'equipment or apparatus necessary for a particular activity' for many of us the word 'paraphernalia' takes on a more interesting connotation. Historically, 'paraphernalia' referred to personal possessions of a married woman outside her dowry, but as time as passed, the definition of paraphernalia has become thoroughly intertwined with the taboo, from the realm of 'water pipes' to that of 'personal massagers.' The installations, sculptures, drawings, paintings and photography presented in this exhibition address the historical, humorous, personal and political aspects of the word or idea of 'paraphernalia.' Opening Reception: There will be an Artists Reception and Open Studios on Saturday, March 8, from 7:00pm-10:00pm.
