 installation of his temporary work of public art\, Barton Barriers\, viewa
 ble along South Lamar Boulevard at Barton Skyway.\nThe piece takes objects
  that are normally viewed as heavy and unattractive and imbues them with l
 ight and a tumbling verticality. Nine-hundred-pound pieces of industrial p
 lastic are used like Legos (R)  to create a barrier-bending installation r
 eminiscent of Jessica Stockholder's work or John Chamberlain's car-crash e
 xpressionism. Serious practicality suddenly becomes playful and inviting.
 \nBarton Barriers will be installed over an 8-hour period\, March 13\, fro
 m 9 am to 5 pm.  The public is invited to watch a team of artists install 
 the work.\n\n\nStart time: 6:30 to 9 pm\n\n\nAn opening reception for the 
 public will be held on Saturday\, March 13\, from 6:30 to 9 pm at the site
 . In keeping with the project’s neighborhood-friendly objectives\, atten
 dees are invited to purchase their own refreshments at the Valero Mart nex
 t to the installation site. \n
