Clever, funny, this is Keith Reddin's highly satirical adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's novel, Black Snow. Sergei Maxudov, a proofreader for the Shipping Gazette, has written an awful palimpsest of a novel, entitled Black Snow, and decides to hang himself on account — that is until a strange visitor pounds on his door and offers to publish it. This is Sergei’s introduction to the outrageous world of publishing and from there, to the downward spiral of adapting one’s work for the stage.

The world’s first “Influenzical” is coming to Austin: “Epidemic of Fear,” a show created in New York during the last world-wide virus outbreak. This musical comedy satirizes health care, politics, panic and pandemics. Featuring music that is live and chickens that are not. A political campaign hinges on the handling of the viral threat, after an animal-based virus is discovered by a blogger. Health police, “flu phones” and a Gitmo-style Wellness Retreat are created in an aggressive all-out war against the Virus.

For more than a quarter century, the folks at Esther's Pool have kept Austin rolling with laughter. Part magic show, part vaudeville review, part improv tour-de-force, Esther's Follies takes no prisoners, offering biting, hilarious satire on all the news makers and events fit to parody.

Performed by the Tex-Arts Youth Ballet, The Firebird is a 1910 ballet by Igor Stravinsky and orginally choreographed by Michel Fokine. The fantastical and colorful ballet is based on Russian folk tales of the magical glowing bird of the same name that is both a blessing and a curse to its captor. 

Using Shakespeare’s instruction to the audience to use their imaginations to conjure the play’s royal courts, horses, armies, and battlefields, B. Iden Payne Award-winning actor/director and Austin Chronicle Arts Editor Robert Faires reconceives the drama for a solo performer playing 13 characters. Over the course of 75 minutes, with only a few household props, he leads the audience from Henry’s throne across the English Channel into the French court, through a fearful war and into one of the most charming wooing scenes in Shakespeare.

Selected by Janis’ sister Laura Joplin as the original star of the Off-Broadway and national tour of Love, Janis, Andra Mitrovich returns home to ZACH’s stage to channel Janis Joplin as only she can! The life and music of the rock-n-roll icon explodes onto the stage in this dynamic rock musical that offers a glimpse at Janis’ soul through the letters she wrote home and the songs she made famous, like “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Piece of my Heart,” and “Mercedes Benz.”

Kyle Kalke, an astronomer since childhood, a high school "science nerd," falls in love with flamboyant, outspoken, openhearted Zoe, who—astonishingly—loves him back. When she is kidnapped and murdered, Kyle barricades himself by devoting himself more feverishly to the cosmos and losing himself in loveless sex.

In this bilingual comedy, Antonia and Margarita are magicians at paying bills without money, cooking gourmet meals with pet food, and lying to their husbands. When the neighborhood supermarket begins to double their prices of food and the local factory is laying off 6,000 employees, the neighborhood panics, setting off a chain reaction of lies, mishaps, pregnant 80 year old women and a “miracle” by Santa Eulalia.
